Hiring a Personal Trainer is About Commitment
I was at a local gym the other day, and saw they were running a promotion. The first hour session with a personal trainer was $1.
I don't do session pricing. That's because I want a commitment from my clients up front. If you can't commit, you aren't serious enough for me. If you can't be patient over a period of months, you aren't the right client. If you think one or five or even 20 sessions is enough, it's probably not. And if you aren't willing to get out of the end-date-quick-fix-easy-route mindset, then it's not going to last, and we've both wasted our time. The process of committing energy and time and money to something like this is extremely uncomfortable. Can I set that expectation in a one-hour session? No.
I know this sounds like tough love. That's because it is. Hiring a coach or a personal trainer is a big investment of time and money. An important one. The commitment to changing your diet and activity level is multi-faceted. It requires action on a daily basis, not just in the gym. It's not for the people looking for a dollar menu. It's not for people who are afraid of discomfort.
If you want to get serious about your fitness and nutrition, don't fall for marketing tactics. Don't waste your time. Hire a coach who actually cares. If, and only if, you're ready to commit.
